CEPHEUS, also known as “King”, was named after the mythical King Cepheus of Aethiopia, husband of Cassiopeia and father of Andromeda. According to the myth, Zeus placed Cepheus in the sky after his tragic end because he descended from the nymph Io, one of Zeus’ loves. Its brightest star is called Alderamin and it was first catalogued in the 2nd century by Greek astronomer Ptolemy.
