SCORPIUS means “scorpion” in Latin and, according to Greek mythology, it is associated with the story of Orion. According to the myth, Orion boasted about his hunting skills, which angered the Earth goddess Gaia. As a punishment Gaia sent a scorpion to attack him. The scorpion and Orion became eternal enemies and were eventually placed in the sky as constellations. The brightest star in Scorpius is Antares, and it was first catalogued by Greek astronomer Ptolemy along with all the other Zodiac constellations.
